The block was subdivided into eleven farms, ranging in area from 16 acres to 100 acres, the quality of the land being equal to the very best in. New Zealand, having been originally bush and swamp. The bush land has been stumped, ploughed and resown, while the swamp land iias the advantage of deep drainage by Drainage Board and private drains, part of this being in grass and part in rough feed- and flax. Mr Ritchie Abraham conducted the sale on behalf of the firm and although only four sections were disposed of hammer, the balance failing to reach the vendor’s reserve, the price realised for these sections can be considered highly satisfactory, both by the vendor and purchasers’. No. 11 section of 72 acres was offered first and opened out at £55 per acile quickly reaching £7O per acref at which price it was knocked down to Mr W. H. Phillips, of Tolcoliiaru.
