HOSPITAL LEVY

COUNTY COUNCIL SUGGESTS LITIGATION. A suggestion that the Council enter into litigation over the question of subsidies upon hospital levies paid, out of County funds, was contained in a letter written by the Woodville County Council to the Pohangina County Council, and read at a meeting of the latter body on Saturday. The writer forwarded a legal opinion, which had been received from counsel to the New Zealand Counties* Association, which traversed minutely the question of the payment by County Councils of the annual hospital levy, and suggested that the Pohangina Council should associate itself with the movers in litigation. When the letter, was read Councillors were non-committal in their, attitude, and decided to authorise the chairman -to inquire into the cost of combining with the Woodville County in legally testing the position.
