HOSPITAL ELECTION.

CANDIDATES BEATEN.

Bathurst, February 8. For some time past the question of allowing women on the committee has been a most vexed one among members of the hospital committee. - A test was made when three local ladies offered themselves as candidates. They fared badly, however, for the trio suffered defeat.

Mrs. A. G-. Ambrose, who poled most of the women's votes, was' 24th on the list with 134 votes. Mr. George McKenzie topped the poll with 249 votes. Mrs. W. N. Fraser, who took the most prominent paTt in the hospital woman's suffrage movement, was at the bottom of the poll with only 53 votes. Another surprise was the defeat of Mr. J. J. Sullivan, * who had been a member for nearly 40 years. He was 2Gth on the poll with 123.
