When Weraroa) and Otaki entered the field on Saturday lor the final *ol the cricket, championship the odds appeared to be well in'favour of the local team, but despite a merely fair showing on the; part of Otaki, they were eventually beaten by 45 runs on the first innings, after a ratlher pitiable exhibition* The game was played qn the oval, the weather being on the dull side and a slight shower falling during the afternoon, but not sufficient to give the advantage to either side. Otaki opened with Sievers and Twist, the former to th/ general surprise, falling the first hall from Sloan. Enoka then partnered Twist, getting both these wickets, 3 down for 20 runs. Giblin, the Otaki captain, was mext at the crease, and was the "mainstay of his side. With Baker he carried the total to 57 before O’Connor beat Baker, the total being 6 for 57. . * Simcox, who came inoiext, added 9, being bowled by, Pringle; Clark joined Giblin and the best stand, of the day was*made, both'getting runs in good style. Giblin, had added 26 to the score and was batting) really well . when O’Connor took the ball froth Sloan and fetched him. Eight for 90. Kearne joined ClaTkiflnd both made things willing, Clarke returning when lie had made 19, being well applauded, when he returned to the pavilion. Johnson helped Kearns to bring the * total to 112, .Sloan displacing his middle pin when he had made , a very useful 16. Sloan, bbwling the next man for a duck, brought the innings to a close, Johnson carrying his bat with 9 to his credit. Total 112.. Weraroa set out to reach Otaki’s score with Pringle and Hughes at the wicket, both playing very cautiously and. with Giblin and Sievers handling the ball. With the score at 24 Giblin beat Pringle with a good ball. Pringle looked as if he were in for a big score and had made 19 out of the total scored. - • Conder was next in but did not last

long, Mollison taking his place. Hughes was next to go, three down for 31. 'Mollison batted with plenty of spirit, and was - beaten by Giblin after scoring 13. O’Connor and DWyer made 9 and 7 respectively before being dismissed, the total being 59. At this' stage Weraroa’s hopes looked very dismal and the “tail” did nothing to improve matters, the remainder of the team being dismissed for 8 runs. ' , Giblin bowled exceedingly well for Otaki, getting 7 for 23. Sievers got the remaining three wickets.

For Weraroa Sloan secured the best bowling figures, taking 5 for 21 ;■ Pringle 3 and O’Connor 2, accounted for the remainder.
