WANDERERS FOOTBALL CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Wanderers’ Football Club was held iu Wilkinson’s rooms last Friday, (lie -president, Mr J. W. Procter, occupied the chair, and there was an attendance or between 20 and 30 members anci supporters. The chairman, in opening the meeting, regretted the weather having interllored with the attendance to a. certain extent. Still the number present went to prove the interest that was being taken in the Club, lie apologised for the absence of H. Jacobs, who was (unable to be present owing to illness in his family. Before commencing the business of the evening a vote of sympathp with the Winiata family in the loss of their mother was passed, the meeting standing in silence. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET.

The following report, arfd balance sheet were submitted by the secre- ' tary, Mr T. Winiata The past season did not, perhaps prove such, a success as Ihe Club would desire as far as honours were concerned, the Club being runners up in the Shield competitions and -beaten in the first, match for the Nash Cup. Much as your committee endeavoured to 'pul a. iunior team on the field its attempts were unsuccessful and they sincerely hope that the ensuing season will again see a junior fleam representing this club on the field of play. The club was again honoured by the inclusion of H. Jacob and T. Winiata in the Maori team that toured New South Wales, the latter, however, was unable to make the trip. IT. Jacob was also included in the North Island team which he captained and the first. All Black team. Unfortun-

ately, however, h,e Was unable to travel South to take part in the All Black and New South Wales match. The balance sheet showed, the following items: — Receipts: Balance as at, March 15th, 1.023, £1 10s 10d; donations, £3 13s 6d ; subscriptions, £4 ss: total £9 9s 4d. Expenditure: To Ilorowhemia Rugby Union £3 ?s, bank fee ss, cash in hand £4 1s 6d balance as per bank book £l.4s 10d, leaving a balance in band of £5 15s 4d. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Club Colours—To remain the same .as formerly. A hearty vote of thanks to the late 'secretary, Mr T. Winiata, who was forced to resign the position owing to lack of time to attend to the duties was carried by acclamation. Tbe following new members were elected to the club:—L. Crotty,' D. Grotty, R. Lairig, H. Hay, E. C. Williams Dr. Mackereth, L. Hinton, F. Carpenter, and'.!. Kdginton. Mr L. Ingram was elected an honorary life member of the club. On the motioi\ of Mr Nash it was agreed that- the Committee meet on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m., the first meeting, however, to be held on Monday, ,10th March, in order to arrange scratch matches, etc.

In moving the resolution, Mr Nash said that as an hid player he would impress on members that, they should not bother so much about scratch .matches. He would advise them to get into training right away and ! when the scratch match came along they would be in condition to do themselves credit. Hearty votes of thanks to (lie chan', to Mr Wilkinson for the use of his rooms, and to the Press concluded the meeting.

WERAROA FOOTBALL CLUB

The annual meeting of the Weraroa Football Club was held in Messrs ■Well and Cooper’s rooms on Friday when then 1 vvas some forty members presold. Air Peters was voted to. the chair 'until the arrival of the president, Mr ,1. J. O’Connor. Mr Peters said that taking everything into consideration Hie club had a very successful year. Many difficulties were encountered, but ail obstacles were overcome and the young -players had made good progress. He -congratulated the players wlu> had gained representative honours and hoped to see the club 1 well represented in this respect this year. The balance sheet showed a slight deficit'em the year’s working, 'out several members and supporters of the club were prepared to make this up and let the club start the 1924 season with a clean sheet.

At this stage Mr O’Cuimor arrived and took- the chair. The elec! ion oi officers was then proceeded with. Mr (./Connor declined re-election, stating that lie had occupied his present oil ice since the inception of the club and thought, h only fair -that this.honour should now he conlemkl upon one of the ulliers Who imd also staunchly supported Weraroa right through. The subscription was fixed at 7s 6d for senior and junior players, 5s for third grade, and 3s for fourth grad© (all including; insurance) honorary members subscription s£. On vacating the chair Mr O’Connor thanked all the members for the courtesy that bad' been extended to him during the time he had been president of the club, also to all those willing, workers who helped to make football at Weraroa a success. This club bad some of the best Avorkcrs in the country and it, was up to the members to support them by putting in good training for the coming season. It was only by assiduous training that a club could hope to excel and he hoped they would not leave this matter till the season actually opened, but get going right ■ away. Amid cheers Mr O’Connor handed over to the neAV president, Mr Hooper, tvho thanked the members for the honour they had conferred upon him and hoped the same good fellowship would always exist as had been the case in the past.

Mr Whitehouse brought up the matter of dress. It was an utter disgrace .to see players going on to the field in any old rags. Nothing looked neater than a well turned out team and players should take a pride in their appearance and turn out uniformly dressed. ■ It was eventually decided to adopt Avhite jeyseys with "black trousers and stockings and to ask the coaches to see that their individual teams were turned nut correctly clothed.

In discussing the question of balls Mr Hooper explained that the Rugby Union had last year borrowed three halls for the. training of the rep. team for their Hawkes Bay match. These had not been returned. It was decided to forward an account to the Rngbv Union for same.

One of Weraroa*s players had last year met -with an accident and was si ill in hospital as a. result, thereof. T( was resolved 'to arrange a ■;benefit came with the Power Hoard for Saturday March 15th, and also to circulate ' a subscription list- Thirty-six new members were elected.
