SHANNON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A special 'meeting pf the Shannon School Committee was held on Saturday evening for the purpose of dealing with the matter of playground apparatus, which the committee had decided to instal at the local school from a portion of the funds raised by the recent carnival. Mr Brittain, of Auckland, manufacturer of school ground apparatus, was present. After making a thorough investigation of the various apparatus submitted, an agreement with Mr Brittain was entered into to supply the following:— (1) A combination of trapeze, Roman rings, poles, horizontal bar, sliding pole and rope ladder; (2) ladder for girls; (3) four swings; and (4) merry-go-round for infants. The total cost of the whole lot being £157 10s. As the Education Department will subsidise the items, mentioned £ for £; the sum of £7B 15s Avill be required from 1 the fund, plus the cost of eight bags of cement and 4| yards of metal which the committee have to supply. Mr Brittain informed the meeting he will commence the erection of the plant at the end of the present week. ■ We think the selection made, with the amount of money available, will be approved of bv all interested, as the committee has undoubtedly given children of all ages consideration and are thus bringing the school up to the level of the larger schools in the matter of recreation and amusement for the children.
