Jamieson, of Tokomaru. in respect of pigs kept by his neighbour, Mr G. Voss, that he had visited the locality and inspected the pig enclosure, and also interviewed both the parties interested. In his opinion the pigs were causing no actual nuisance but as they were right opposite Mr Jamieson’s house, he had been able to persuade the owner to shift them to a more suitable locality.—-Letter received.

GENERAL. Cr. Whyte asked if a man could be put on the by-roads in the northern part of the Tokomaru riding, for a few days.—AgreedCr. Harkness (Wirokino) stated that in his opinion the crown of the road in the tarred portion of the Settlement roacL was weak. It was his opinion that metal should have 'been added to this part when the scarifying was being done. Thle metal from the centre had worked to the outside and the crown was already going into pot holes. Frankly he was anxious about the rpad. The Engineer stated that an additional 260 yards of metal had been added before tarring. The big trouble Was that when the work-was being done the motor traffic had ignored their notice to keep off with the result that thle surface had been damaged to a certain extent. Cr. Harkness asked what was being done in regard to the Kawiu road. There was £l7O in hand from thle 'loan money besides which there Was a Government grant of £3OO available. To obtain the Government grant it would be, necessary to provide a further £l3O and if they did not get on the job -they might not be able to collect the Government money next year. . The, metalling should be put in hand as if it were neglected the work done would be lost. The Engineer was instructed to prepare a plan of the work required. In answer to Cr. Catley, the County Clerk stated that everything was now in order for the application for the Waitarere road loan.

Thie chairman stated that two let- - ters had been written by the Council to Mr Field, M.P., the member for the district, asking if he could arrange for the deputation to be received, the first one being sent in January, and the second a month later, but that no reply had been re-» ' ceived. -‘He would suggest that they should ask Mr Linklater to do something in the matter, as thiey could not allow it to drop. Messrs Clayton and Robinson, barristers and solicitors, wrote on behalf of Mr C. B, McGill in reference to the Aratangata Drain, that they noted that the work Of cleaning out the drain had been performed by the Council, but.pointing out that unless the flood gate were renewed the work would be., wasted. The Engineer was instructed to attend to this work immediately. Mr Walter Wylie, Muhonua West, waited on the Council in respect of a bank which was erected on the neighbouring property belonging to Mr Davis, lately owned by Mr L. Dixon, and which had the effect of throwing the overflow of the Ohau River on to his (Mr Wylie’s) property. He asked that the county take action to have the bank which was erected along the County road, removed.; He considered that the amount necessary to remove same would be about £l2- and he was willing to remove the bank at his own expense and have the County take it out of his raites next year. *lt was promised that the matter should receive attention in the near future, a resolution being passed that Mr L. Dixont be requested to remove the bank or allow cost of doing the work.
