TRAFFIC RETURNS.

IN MANAWATU COUNTY,

The returns of the traffic tally taken .over a period of a fortnight, nighi. and day, hy the. Manawatu Cofunty Council were furnishied to the meeting on Tuesday. The figures; which have been secured for the purpose of assisting the Main Highways Board to determine what roads within the county should he declared main highways, are of special interest in so far as they indicate the amazingly large amount of motor traffic through this county. The detailed returns are as follow : Shannon-Foxton road: 806 cars, 144 lorries, 1 buggy, 95 gigs, 27 waggons, 105 drays, 228 saddle horses, 8 loose horses, 18 cattle, 1090 sheep, 160 motor cycles, 616 push cycles. -Whirokino bridge: 986 cars, 242 lorries, 109 gigs, 4 waggons, 286 drays, 405 saddle (horses, 18 looae horses, 117 cattle, 422 sheep, 82 motor cycles, 372 push cycles, 20 coaches. The cleric pointed .out to the meeting that the tally was taken oyer a period which did not include race meetings, shows, etc., and it was decided to mention this fact wfhen forwarding a report to the authorities concerned.
