PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
TEA AND PRIZE-GIVING,
At the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening the annual tea and prize-giving took place. At 5.30 p.m. the children sat down to tea, the tables carrying a plentiful supply of good things in the way of sandwiches, cakes, fruit salads, jellies, etc., to which full justice was
done by the children. After the tea, the prize-giving took place together with a concert given, by the children, at which, the parents and friends were present, the various items rendered being much appreciated. The following contributed to the programme,
I the concert opening with the 'hymn "Sun of My Soul," nicely sung by the children, followed by: song, Miss Vera Aim; piano solo, Miss Edna Murray; song, Masters C and O. •Watkins; violin solo, Miss Feetham, song, Misses J. and E. Murray, and solo, Miss Aim. During the concert the prizes were presented by Mrs Mcpherson, senr., each* child receiving a nicely-bound book, the following awards were made:— Seniors: Girls—Jean 'Brown, Gwen BroWn, Vera Aim, Eidha Murray, Joan Murray, Mary Ewart, Eunice McCullock, Annie Webster, Alison Clayton. Boys—Andrew McGregor, Frank Murray, Brian Clayton, Earl Watterston„. Sjelwyn Franks, Dan Stewart, Ruce Watkins, Ray Watkins, Clif Watkins, Lester Burling, James Ewart and Jack Ewart.
Juniors: Girls—Billie Brown, Linda Feetham, Phyllis Butterworth, Edna Eagle, Hazel Gardner, Lola Holden, Nellie Perivano, Laura McCullock. Infants: Peggy Murray, Joyce Hardie, Joan Bovis, Clara Burling, Allen and Bob Judd, Betty Eagle, Noel Franks, Elsie and Blossom Eagle, May Gardner, Ina Boytlen, Nola and Grace Millar, June and Colin Carkeek, Norman. Ricbjes, Margaret Jamieson, Betty Franks, Owen Watkins and Roy Murray. Attendance prizes Andrew McGregor and Jean Brown.
At the conclusion of the prize-giv-ing Master Watkins, on behalf of the boys, in a neat little speech, presented ttjeir teacher Mr J. Riches, with a isilver sugar scoop, the latter suitably replying, stated the roll number' had increased from 39 to 60. , A presentation of a silver scent spray was also made by the Sunday School teachers to Miss Maisie Brown, who has officiated as organist. Mr Riches, the superintendent, and the willing helpers are to'be congratulated on the excellent arrangements made and carried out by them in giving the children such a good time. After refreshments had been handed round the Rev. Stewart extended thanks to the parents and friends for contributions to Mr L. Martin for the loan of the piano, to Mrs McPherson for presenting the prizes, and to Mr Riches and the teaching staff, which were all heartily carried by acclamation, thus terminating a most enjoyable gathering.
