IMPROVING SHEEP HERDS.

The sale of a large consignment of imported Southdown rams brought to the Dominion some months ago by Messrs B. H. and J. U. G. Slack, and which Avas held on the morning of People's Day of the Masterton Show, attracted a representative attendance of breeders. The sheep were personally selected by the vendors from the wellknown flocks of His Majesty the King, the Earl of Derby, the Duke of Eichmond, Sir W. Bird, Rev. Brocklebank, Messrs J. Langmead, and W. Langmead.

Although it was anticipated that some of the picked sheep would have realised higher prices, the average for the 27 rams sold was £B2 Is 3d.

The sheep were widely distributed, and the infusion of so much imported blood into the flocks of the Dominion should give very advantageous results. Among those to make purchases was Mr. Field, M.P., who paid 120 guineas and 94 guineas for two of the animals.
