"THE CHRISTIAN,"

In the pihotodnamatic version of Sir Bali Caine's great novel "The Christian " which comes to the Maonland Theatre on Friday, Maurice Tourneur has demonstrated in no uncertain way the wisdom of selecting him to direct the production!. It adds greatly to the interest m the picture to know that the exterior scenes all were taken <by Mr Tourneur in tfheir natural settings in London, at Epsom Downs, and on the Isle of Man in close co-operation with Sir Hall* Came. Sir Hall, in fact, was most closely associated throughout the translation of his novel to the silver sheet. Although Mr Tourneur has shown his genius, for portraying mental conflict on the screen m inis working out of the peculiar psychology of John Storm, he has filled the picture with stirring incidents—the scenes at Epsom Downs on Derby Day, the mob scene in Trafalgar Square (for the making of which "Mr Tourneur Iby special permission of the British Government turned that historic spot into a huge motion picture set irom midnight until dawn of one day) a gorgeous banquet scene, and many clashes between the warring characters of the novel.

A ROMANCE OF THE SEA. Those who look 'back with undimmed delight to the first adventure story of youth will recognise an ancient thrill when "Yellow Men and Gold" by Gouverneur Morris is shown at the Maoriland itleatre on Wednesday evening next . All the action and romance that made Robert Louis Stevenson's adventure stories the joy of our childhood are present in Goldwyn's fascinating photoplay of buried treasure on a voldanic island of the south seas Helen Chadwick as the delightful mistress Qf a strange Chinese roveroi the seas and Richard Dix as tihe mighty-fitted treasure hunter will arouse in every soul the inborn love for stout hearts in glorious adventure. ■ ._
