On Saturday, Mr G. Quarrie, who is employed at Miranui, had an escape from wjhat might- have been a serious accident, when lie was struck on the cheek just below the eye by the point oi' a, slasher wJtiich inflicted a deep cut, necessitating medical attention.

We are informed that a movement is on loot to endeavour to get a .new firm to hold a fortnightly sale here. The Borough workmen are at present busy clearing and ploughing that unsightly stretch on 'the left side of Plimmer Terrace from the. station gates to, McKegg's corner. This piece is to b& levelled off: and later on it is tlhe intention of the Borough Council to have shrubs planted and to fence it off. When this work has been carried out it will help to give tliei business portion of the town u much, brighter appearance.
Mr T. Logan, who has been secretary of the. Labour Party in Shannon for some time, left yesterday for H.uuterville, where he intends to reside. Mr Lo£pm, duirhig his .residence in Sbanon, ,has taken an active part in Labour maters and will be missed from Shannon.

Another resident suggests that a more suitable place would be the grass patch opposite the Club Hotel, where the cars would be right out ,of the Avay of traffic and yet in a handy position.

The proprietors of the Maoriland Theatre have been requested by many mothers in Shahnon to 'hold a mating on Saturday afternoon, and in consequence; next Saturday at 2 p.m<. they will screen the wonder picture ' Notoriety," and at the same timei welcome mothers with children. Special have been made ioi prams and go-carts and a present oi a tin of Glaxo will be given to •ev.ery baby under two years of age. Adults will be admitted to ail parts lor is and children over four and under 1~, sixpence. The management are to .be complimented on their forward move.
A young''man" named Phillip Bright, employed at Spiers' mill, met witai a nasty accident yesterday afternoon, sustaining a compound multiple iracture of the left arm. He was attended by Dr.' Macdonald and removed to the Palmerston North Hospital. On enquiry this morning we- learn that his condition is satisfactory.
"Unemployment in Wanganui is practically nil," stated Mr (Johns, oi the Labour Department this week, says the Herald. "There is a shortage of labour for Mangpßhao, and locally carpenter and bricklayers are very hard to giet—more especially thte latter. There is an erroneous impression abroad that bricklayers are not wanted in Wanganui, but such is not Utie case. There is a. decided shortage here of men in that trade."
