THE HUN AT THE WHEEL.
UNCONSCIOUS VICTIM FOUND ON OHAU ROAD. KNOCKED DOWN BY UNKNOWN CAR.
A man. lying Junconscious in the middle of the road with his bicycle on top of him met the gaze of Mr W. N. Anderson, the, County Engineer, when motoring from Levin to Ohau on a recent evening. A,t first Mr Anderson arrived at the natural conclusion that the man was drunk, but on getting out to move him to a safer spot he .found that he was stunned in the literal and not the colloquial sepse. While with the aid of a passing motorist, the Engineer was .carrying the. man to the side of the road, he came to. In reply, to questions he could only stait© that he had been knocked oyer by~ a small car. Barring a bad lump on the .back of the head and a severe shaking he was uninjured. His statements were borne out by the fact that the clay at the srae of the road was deeply rutted where the car had evidently swerred at the point of impact. it
seems obvious that the motorist drove, callously on without stopping to look a,t the victim of his recklessness.
