OwuV. to the usual meeting night failing on the evening’ of Anniversary Day the Council met- on Thursday evening Present; Ine Mayor (Mr W Muidoch) and Crs. Beard, Hyde, Butt Gardner, .Carter, Gunning, Murray and tiie Engineer (Mr Edwards). CORRESPONDENCE. From the Department of Lands and Survey forwarding copy of -an O-rfier-in-Councii published in Gazette of the 10th mst. vesting Sections 322 and 340 in, the Shannon Borough Council in trust for Municipal purposes. From Shannon Co-op.. Dairy Co. re cement contract to supply 50 tons, they agree to supply same at price quoted subject to a pro rata tailing clause, that is to say if cement drops, for instance! 5s per ton, their contract price would drop by a corresponding amount. . 'From secretary, Radium Fund Wellington, stating the committee is anxious to finalise the Radium Appeal at the earliest possible date, and enquiring v T hat had been done in Shannon. —The Mayor stated tiie Council when the matter came before them, before the. holidays, decided to make an appeal in the New Year, and he moved that a subscription list be opened immediately which was carried.
From B. T. Curran with regard to the i-eport of the Health Officer in connection with drain to take water away from under her shop in Pliinmer Terrace, stating she wished to draw the attention of the Council to the fact that it was the Council’s own proposal that they should use the right of way in question for dumping earth, not required by them when asphalting the footpath some twelve months ago. This was done purely to save them expense and waste of time in carting the earth to some dump further away and solely for their own convenience. Then was the time the pipe should have gone in as the filling blocked the -only get away the water had. This being so, sjjg thought the Council should "have the pipe put through the filling at their own expense.—The Mayor said he remembered such a thing had happened, but not witM instructions from the Council, and as the matter was a small one he moved the Council put in the pipes, which was agreed to. From Department, of Health, re regulations for eating houses, and forwarding a copy of. the Gazette notifying that registration is required by July Ist, 1924, and asking the Council to fix fees, etc.—Received. GENERAL;.
The following tenders Mere accepted for the lease for 12 months of Sections 340 and 322:—N0. 340, Mr Gardner, 26s plus rates ; No. 322, Mr Christiansen, 21s plus rates. Tt was decided that the ranger be given 14 days’ notice in termination of his services and that applications be. called for the position?
Accounts were passed for payment totalling £B7 Is 3d. At a meeting of Waterworks Committee it was decided the contractor for carting) pipes be instructed to remove water pipes which are blocking entrance to premises.
