AWAITING ENGINEER’S ESTIMATE.

A reply was received from the New Zealand representative for the Montgomerie Neilsodi, Edmunds and Co., regarding supplying a complete report, scheme and estimate to meet the requirements of Shannon. They would make a survey and prepare a

complete report and scheme including

details of quantities and costs of same and outline on the plan the scheme which they would recommend for 2| per cent, of the estimated cost of such work. With the report they would submit a tender in accordance with which they would he definitely prepared to carry out the whole of the work. The tender would cover the cost of the report, survey, plans, engineering fees, etc. With regard to pipes for the main they would use 12-inch glazed earthenware pipes. The letter said the Council would agree with them when they said that the glazed earthenware pipe had proved itself most serviceable in every way. When going into the matter they would like the Council to hear in mind that the tender they submitted is .the tender at which they are prepared to carry out the work. The letter concluded by asking the Council to consider the matter and advise them what they intend to do as soon as possible. Cr. Gunning said before anything was done in this matter it was necessary they should ijuve the Engineer’s estimate, as until then they were in the dark. When they got that they would have something to work on. ] Councillors agreed with this coriten-1 tion and. it was decided the firm ho written to and informed - that ' the Council will reply at a later date. The Engineer ' said his estimate would be ready in a week or two.
