BOXING.
TOURNEY ON FEBRUARY 9th,
There was a fair aittdiiclaiice at the'Boxing Association’s meeting, held On Friday evening, over which Mr G. Murphy presided. Owing to the illness, of the treasurer (Mr H. T. Greedy), the financial position from the last tourney was not available for the meeting, but the secretary reported that the Association had paid all the accounts and had purchased and paid for,the staging -from the Manawatu Association Tor £25 and there was a considerable credit balance in the Bank. The matter of holding the next tourney was discussed and it' was resolved it be held on Saturday, February 9th, the. evening following the sports meeting. Messrs Steer, Young, Burroughs and Hudson were appointed a committee to .draw up a programme, which may possibly be on the lines of a novice tournament with one or two star bouts included, as it was. thought this would encourage the sport amongst the local boys. Dissatisfaction' was expressed a,t the meeting by the lack of interest taken in the management by some of those on the members and it was pointed out that it was Only by rolling up to the meetings and taking an active part in the affairs of the Association that the sport will make progress in the district. , A .general meeting is being called for Tuesday evening to discuss arrangements for the coming tourney when ft is hoped all members will make a point Of attending.
