From the Department of Agriculture, Levin, drawing attention ito blackberry growing on the Council's land .on the Shannon-Levin road, where ihe. refuse-from the Borough, is tipped.—Referred to the "ROad Com- * mittee to attend to. Application wag asked from the Shannon Athletic Club for use of Domain on February 9th and peilniisgion to make charge lor admission.— Granted.

From Department of Health forwarding report of lnsector of Health with regard to saleyards which was as follows:—"It is noticed that even alter a little rain several pens become a "quagmire of mud and animal filth. In dry weather, this dries up, and blows about. As a general rule;, these pens are not cleaned out alter .the sale, chiefly because there is no satisfactory foundation. I would therelore recommend that, before a license

is issued, the owners of these pens be required to pave and drain such pens .as: required by the Inspector of Health and to his... satisfaction. It will then be insisted upon that all yards, pens, etc, be) ; thoroughly cleansed within 24 hours from the termination of the sale." The Medical Officer Of Health, Or. • Findlay, stated that where possible sanitary accommodation and adequate - supply of water for the use of stock 1 and for cleaning must be provided.: He recommended that.all the above be required to the satisfaction pi tihe Inspector of Health whom he had instructed to personally indicate .to those concerned the actual require-

Also that section 232 is vested in the Corporation as .a site lor a public library room.—The Town Clerk was instructed to write; Mr linklater thanking 'him for the information. From Department of Health re unsanitary state of premises in rummer Terrace occupied by .Mrs Chur.cher, stating there is no drainage available and to mate matters worse, the, natural watercourse has been inteiv lered with, so that water .stagnates under the building. The.y recommend the Council to serve notice on the owner to carry out the following unprovements: The water course to bts graded so that water will not stagnate under the J>uilding.-The Town Clerk reported he had lorwarded the notice and his action was. confirmed. The Health Department also requested that notice be served on the owner of the premises -referred to above requesting that structural alterations as outlined in certificate be carried out within eight weeks from date of service.—The Town Clerk reported the notice had 'been spent. From Department of Health, forwarding repoift from the: Dominion, Analyst in respect to the water supply from the Mangaore stream, stating the sample is of good quality for potable purposes arid is also a solt water tor domestic use.. From J. Beard applying tor a license for billiard room, situated m Ballance street.—Granted. From secretary, Chamber of Commerce urging the Borough Council to have Plimmer Terrace from the railway gates to the Albion Hotel corner put in order, at the same time filling in dip and taking bend out of street. —The Council recognised this was a matter that required attention and it was decided to put the Borougn roadman on to do the filling m and to engage another man for a iortnight to assist. The strip of land is to be ploughed and the spoil to be used for filling in.

OVERSEER'S REPORT. The Overseer reported as follows: I have carted 105 yawls of metal, six of wihich were carted to the cemetery and the balance to Stafford, Stout,, Sheehan, Grey and Ballance streets, Nathan Terrace and Levin and Foxton roads. Timber has also been carted for kerbing around the plot in front of railway station. Tine rubbish dump has also been attended to.

ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer reported as follows: "I beg to report that all the m.eh, on the various works stopped work for the holidays*, some of them resuming work on trie 2nd. Owing to the P.W.D. works being closed for Christanas and New Year holidays the borough men were unable to get the rock drills repointed. The assistant I engineer borrowed a forge from the } P.W.D. people, .but it broke, down; ; in consequence the men were put on to the trench work oni a flat portion between the reservoir site and the rock face portion and this was quick- j ly finished as far as possible. I then gave thesmj a line on; the" flat N.W. of the reservoir site on section No. 6 (Mitchell's) where they are now working digging the trench for the 8-inch pipe. it will be possible to get the drills repointed and work will be resumed near the intake site. The contractor, M<r Raymond, is making fair progress with the excavating at the site of the reservoir and expects to make a start with, the concrete work in about two week's time. The contractor for itee carting .of the waterpipes is not making very good pnegress with the carting of the pipes, but promises to do better in the future. GENERAL.

Cr. Board made application to have thie grant of £3O to the Cemetery Cotomititee increased to, £SO to enable the committee to put down a concrete path from the cemetery gates to .the imortuiary chapel.—Granted. ■• On the motion of; the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Beard > it was decided to put down pipes and fill in the drain in Voigef street. A deposit was received from Mr A. Mason on Section No. 3, Vance street. that sale be confirmed on terms as set out by Council.
