REQUEST; EQR INFORMATION REGARDING SUE^EfIAGE. At Tuesday night's meeting of the Borough CKrahcil a letter was received from the Chajnber of Commerce stating they had written the. Council re an estimate lor drainage and received a. reply to. the effect' that the Engineer was preparingj an esti'inate. tiiijnce jthejo. ,they uftdexatood that aji Australian Arm were giving an leisfianaite. Thje Ghajnfeer would 'esteem iV a favour if ijtie Council would let them nav© particulars, ot this as soon as possible. To the latfter part of the letter the Mayor said the >Chain!ber aunely did not expect /the Council to copy out the report and send it to them. He said when it came to hand they coiudd ibe notified .'tlhat it was available at the Council office for inspection. ■ Cr. Gardner and the Mayor appeared to think the Chamiber were working against the Council in the matter, the former stating he would point out to the Chamber of Commerce that tne Council had (had the .sewerage question under considera*. tion for the past four or five years, but it could not be carried out until the town had a water supply. Cr. Beard said the whole thing in a nutshell was that an estimate' had (been asked for and never been brought down. Cr. Gunning said one of the objects of the Chamber was to push on. local matters and they had no intention of slighting the Council. The Engineer (Mr Edwards) said .the sewerage muisjt run in conjunction, with the .wajtar scheme ;to avoid cutting up the streets. He had the scheme, in hand, and plans and the estimate wiere well on the way. He pointed outf thato ifie levels must be taken ■ with' ; caKe "if it was 'gping to be any gtfod at all. It was very important to have fine levelling and calculation.®. It ito*' different to putting in a water scheme. He hoped to have it completed within 10 or 12 days. He had had a lot of work in connection, with tftue water scheme, which had caused faim delay in bringing down the,- estimate for a sewer. age scheme.

Cr. Beard sjaid he was voicing the Chamber; of Commerce's view when ne said' they desired an estimate for sewerage. '

Cr. Gardiner: One would think the Chamiber of Commeroe thought of all these things. Cr. Beard retorted that the Chamber of Coinanerce Jhadceiltainly brought the carrying out, of the work in Plimaner; Terrace ito a h/ead. Cr. - Gunning said suggestions from (the public often did good. Later on, in the evening Cr. Beard moved and . Gr. Guiinjing seconded, That when the Council get particulars .erf estimate) for sewerage the Chamber of Commerce will be supplied with what particulars the Council may think fit.—^Carried.
