LOUD JELLICOE'S TURN NEXT YEAR.
There has been no prumotion to the rank of-Admiral oi the Fleet lor two and a hall years, since Sir Dovutun Sturdee went up on July sth, Two advancements, however, shuulu occur next year, owing to. the retirements oi Lord Jeilicoe and Sir riarry Jackson, .says the "Army and Navy Gazette." 'Up to 1014 an Admiral oi the Fleet remained on the, active list until he was 70. ' Now he has to retire alter live years irom his promotion, but not under the age oi 65. The working oi this dual regulation .will have an interesting ei'lect in 19-24, during which year lour Admirals of the Fleet who were promoted in 1911) will complete their live years—Lord Jeilicoe, Sir Henry Jackson, Lord Beatty, and Lord Wester Memyss. As Lord jeilicoe will he 65 and Sir Henry Jackson 69, they must, retire; but Lords Beatty and Wester Wemyss wiJi only be 53 and 60 years old respectively, so they may remain on, the former until 1936 and the latter until 1.929. The retirement of Lord Jeilicoe, *vhOse promotion was one of those made specially for war service., may not cause a vacancy, but Sir Henry Jackson's going should give a step- to an Admiral, and Sir Charles Madden is the next in turn qualified both by seniority and service tor promotion to the highest rank.
