BENZINE CARGO DESTROYED'
A fire with, disastrous results to a, I motor lorry and 'benzine cafgO' ot> j eurred in the tbig cutting on the main ] road about a. mile south of Shannon ' ] about 10.30 last night. The lorry J | was o\yned and driven by iMr Havili, j of Paimexston. On reaching the cut- j J ting, which is noted for the height of _ I its banlis, the benzine tanks were re- j jpienished, and the driver was pre-j I paring to start again. When he | ) cranked the engine, the lorry burst I J into flame -and before long was a biaz,iinj mass. The cargo was 50 cases m benzine and these exploded, their contents running all over the road and burning as they ran. Traffic was completely blocked on the road till alter midnight. Some Buckley residents bad to return to Shannon and leave their cars, making, their way home on foot across the- hills. The lorry and load were, of course, completely destroyed, the glare lighting up tlie countryside for miles around.
■V fire occurred in Bulls during the holidays, by -which one .of the hotels there was completely destroyed. Amongst the guests in the hosjelry was Mr .and Mrs T. Logan, of Shannon, and their child. They escaped from the burning building, but lost some of their-belongings in the fire.
