FELT BY POWER BOARD

COST OF A COTTAGE. When the tenders for the installation inspector’s cottage were being considered by the Horowhenua Power Board yesterday the chairman pointed out the two tenders of £1176 and £ll9O were higher than the expenditure of £IOOO which the Board had contemplated. There had evidently been a big rise in the cost of building and tbe Board had to consider wither it should go on and build the cottage or not. . * Mr Matheson thought the increase was not so great .that the Board should throw the thing out. There had been a big rise, in the cost of labour and timber. _ Mr Seifert thought the Board should take into consideration the cost of the Board’s undertakings to the public 'and that the land was pledged for the loans. He did not think, as there wa,s sure to be unforeseen yet necessary expenditure, that the Board should sink £I2OO in & building* Messrs Barber and Kilsby both considered the price excessive. Mr Gunning suggested that the building might be erected by day supported this suggestion. If the Board considered the tenders excessive a.call for the lowest cruotation might he made. . q The matter was left in hands of Messrs Monk, Overton and Goldsmith with nower to act.
