MISS MONA NEALE’S CONCERT.
HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMME
A musical treat was accorded the large audience that attended the first annual concert given at the Maoriland Theatre on Tuesday evening by pupils of Miss Miona NeaJ,e, A.T.C.L.„ L.T.C.L., A.L.G.M., ithe 'whole of the proceeds from which were in aid of the soldiers’, memorial and school lunds. The stage was most artistically decorated for the occasion with , pale blue and pink streamers, taking the form of a trellis with climibing roses, and with the pretty white frocks of the girl pupils, made a most pleasing effect. .The co|ncert numbers were above the average, the whole performance beingi something quite new to Shannon, and the large audience were not .slow in showing their appreciation, which , must have been very gratifying to Miss Neale and her pupils, who undoubtedly gave a .very " creditable performance, proving that ■- we have, splendid talent in our midst. Every item was loudly encored, recalls being demanded. The stage arrangements were excellent, an outstanding feature being the grouping oil (the performers for the different items. A novel item on the programme was a duet (4 pianos) and a quartette (4 pianos), the. time kept by such a number of players. being excellent, and drawing forth much favourable comment. The vocalists of the evening were the talented little Misses Josephine and. Freda Thompson (whose singing,' in character,' was thoroughly enjoyed). In their singing of. “Fleas© Give )Me a Penny, Sir,” these two little igirls were responsible for quite a collection of coin, a £1 note also, being handed up. Afterwards each was presented with , a box of chocolates. At the interval his Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) in ia neat little speech thanked Miss Neale and her 'pupils lor the splendid entertainment they had provided, the proceeds from Which were for such worthy objects and he hoped that at some future date the public would have the opportunity of hearing them again. He. then called for •cheers for Miss Neale which wjer® hdartily ,given. He then presented .gold medals to Miss Hook, who had secured the highest number of marks at the musical examination hi the seniors, and to Miss Nance Ewan- • Balfour, who was highest in the juniors, wishing both every success in their future musical studies. At the conclusion ol Miss Mona Neale’s ■ piano solo, “Home, Sweet Home,” which Was beautifully executed she was loudly applauded and was the recipient of a lovely bouquet. The performance altogether reflected great credit, on Miss. Neale’s ability as a teacher, several of her pupils being quite .proficient with both the piano and stringed instruments, and after Tuesday nights T«Fformanoa we feel sure everyone will look forward to- Miss Neale’s next annua concert. -
