SATURDAY’S ATHLETICS.
GOOD; TIMES PUT UP
DESPITE BAD CONDITIONS
The Levin Amateur Athletic and Cyc-1 ling Club was not blessed m trie wea-j ther for its naif-day meeting on Sat- j uiday, a drenching rain pouring relentlessly. 'all the. afternoon. Nevertireless the stand was well-filled and in spite of fit© greasy track and heavy | going some very respectable times were pat up. The particularly good periormances Of L. A. Tracey, of Wellington, who won the '220 yards irom scr m -2- 7-16 secs„ and C. Campbell in winning the 880yds from scr .in 2mins 3 4-ssecs, showed that Levin secured in these two competitors New. Zealand’s best over the distances.
C. Dunn stood out alone among the cyclists in a way which clearly demonstrated tha,t he is capable of great tilings on trie tiack. Considering tne state of the path the times were very good. Dunn won three out ,of the tour cycle events and was placed third in the half mile.'
it must have been very gratifying to the Club to have so many Wellington competitors, on the ground. Their cheerfulness m the unpleasant conditions and tneir readiness to assist the younger men with help. ana advise were real examples in sportsmanship. A large meed of praise is due the Club’s secretary (Mr A. S. Hunter)- to whose enthusiasm and flair lor organisation the success ,oi meeting in face of impossible conditions was largely due.
