OPENING OF BAZAAR. V
For some weeks past the various queen committees have been working hard in their endeavour to raise'- funds’ towards improving the Domain ana as a final effort a monster bazaar Was opened by the combined committees in the Druids’ Hall ‘ last evening, Wheite; a large crowd (assembled. Eacn queen committee, had -a space allotted mem to. erect stalls and on tne puntie entering the building a busy- scene met tfie eye, tfie wnoie being a hive of industry, large. 'Committees working on behalf or each queen in their eftort to secure the premier position for the. final of the contest which closes this evening. All of the stalls had been tastefully arranged and decorated, depicting the various queen colours, and each being loaded with tempting and useful goods nf all descriptions. Apart from the stalls there are side shows consisting of shooting gallery, hoop-la, darts, triangle billiards, gipsy tent, lortune.-tehing and Fattier Xmas, ,all of which were well patronised and were the means of causing a lot of fun. The ladies conducting the different stalls -together with their assistants are to be complimented on the arrangements they nave made 'and the harmonious way in which iall worked together. Prior t-o the bazaar opening the Foxton Band rendered selections, in the main street afterwards playing at the hall { where their items were much appreciated by the large audience, A lot of interest was aroused in the tug-of-War tournament, four .teams entering consisting of Miranui,, Whitaiiiui, Buckley and Band. The teams Were three mien and a captain. The first pull was -between Bu'ckley :—. Messrs’ J. Crowthar (captain) and G. Stern, W. Stem and E. Stern v. Band: Messrs Brown (captain), Stevenson, Graham and Brooks. This was an easy win for Buckley, who won in 15 seconds, in the second! pull Band forfeited. The next pull between Miranui and Wbitanui proved a very even go, taking Miranui 3min. 50secs. before they shifted their opponents. In the second pull Miranui again won taking them 4min. 20secs. to do so. The teams were Miranui: Ralston (captain) and k, Redd, W. Olsen and Glauszen. Whitanui: Robinson (captain) and Watson, Thompson and F. Eagle., „ , . To-night the final will be. pulled between Miranui and Buckley. There will also be a competition between five school teams. » ■ . The carnival and* bazaar will close this evening when the remaining competition results will be made, known* also the drawing of the art union; will take place. It is hoped to make known the result of the queen con- f test this evening, the. crowning taking place next week. As to-night will be tfie last opportunity for tfie public to give towards tfie fund for assisting the queens and helping towards getting tfie Domain improved to. make it a pleasure ground that can take ns place with others*, it is hoped there will be. 'another record attendance. Following are thei stjall-holders: Farmers: Mesdames Richardson, Jamieson, Reac-h, Terry and Hardie and Messrs Alloway and S. Henry. Fibre: Mesdames Greedy and Crawford, Misses Greedy, Ryan, Reid and Andrew. , , ' Maori: Mesdames Cherry, Mardon, and Keenan, Mesdam.es L. Wikohika, Pickles, Tippler and ■ Tremewam. Sports: Bran tub, Miss K. Feeitham, produce stalls and sweets-, Mesdames Burroughs and Feeth-am. Fruit salad and cream, Mesdames Pfitton and Melles; shooting gallery, Mr Riches-Fortune-telling, Mrs Webb. :Billiards, Mr Watsofi. Gipsy tent, Mr Hanifin.
