MAORI CONCERT.

There was a fair attendance at the! concert given, on Tuesday evening in the Maoriland Theatre toy the members of the Maori queen committee in aid Of funds for the queen. The concert was most enjoyable, the audience showing their appreciation by the number of encores demanded. The pertoru»anica included poji (dances, hakas, comedy sketches, part songs and individual items and in each department the performers showed ability of a very high order. The violin solos by Miss W- Pickles were particularly pleasing and each of her numbers was rendered with a technique and depth of feeling which displayed talent of a, high order. The singing of Mr H. Hakaraia, ' who is the possessor of a .splendid silver tenor voice, met with the heartiest appreciation of the audience, and on. each occasion on which he appeared .he had to submit, to recalls. The comedy portion in the hands of Mr Poneke left nothing wanting. Mr Tobi Mahima,, in his solo work and in a duet with the. former showed that he was an artist with exceptional talent. Mrs Kopuru; who is the possessor of a, very sweet, soprano voice, sang at a (1 is ad vantage owing, to ■ being . unaccompanied, but nevertheless was well received and had to respond to ! an encore. The elocutionary portion of. the concert was contributed tot by. Miss, Maitland, who recited in a most finished manner and in each of her numbers she had to respond to recalls.'

The programme was the toest, yet put on by the Maoris and they are' to be' complimented on the progress, they have mad© in their endeavour to give amusement to the public.
