FOXTON GAS WORKS.

PURCHASE BY POWER BOARD PROPOSED.

“That a. letter be forwarded to 1 the 1 Foxton Borough Council asking them if they would he prepared to enter into negotiations with the Board witty the object of seeing if some arrangement could be come to so that the Board could take over and replace the Boirdugh gajs works system of lighting, etc., with electricity.’’

This was the text of a motion brought forward at< the meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board on. Tuesday by Mr A. Ross. Mr Brown asked if the Board had power to take over -gas works. Mr Seifert said he thought all they could do was appoint a committee. Mr Ross said he thought it would be a good proposition. What they wanted was night load and this would •bp an opportunity to get the whole of the Foxton load.

Mr Matheson: It would mean taking over the whole of the Foxton lighting? . Mr Ross: Yes, ultimately. ; Mr Gunning considered tliat the Board could well leave -the matter till latier on. The Board would -only have a- Small amount of current to supply at first.

Mr McKay thought the first move should come from the Foxton Borough Council. • ,• Mr Ross' did hot see -how it mattered which side it came from,. They were both public bodies acting in the public interest. > The chairman saw no reason why the motion should not be carried and the letter sent. ' 1 Mr Matheson’stressed the view that in the negotiaions the Board would be in a better position, if the first move earn© from the Foxton Council.

\ The chairman agreed with this but pointed out thait the Board would not be committed if the letter was sent. Mr Ross explained that the matter had not been discussed, by the Foxtbn „ Council. He had brought it up on his own' account. . ' The chairman advised Mr Ross, to withdraw his motion' and bring the matter before the Council.

Mr Ross agreed to this course, and tjho matter was then dropped.
