A HOPELESS CASE.
HEALED Blf FAITH. .HICKSON IN SOUTH AFRICA. Further evidence of the wonders worked by the Hickson Spiritual Healing Mission come from South Africa from an ex-Mastertonian, Mr Percy Rutherfurd , (brother of Mr W....R. Rutherfurd, of Lansdowne) who; was formerly residing at Te Whiti, and was on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Carterton. Mr Rutherf urd is now manager of > the combined Standard and Bank of South Africa at Urn tali, Rhodesia. Writing to. a friend at Hastings (says the' "Age"). Mr Rutherfurd mentions most wonderful complete cures, including his own, which were effected by the faith of the afflicted. \ ■
"I had a fall ( at Te Whiti (Masterton) when 15 years of age," states the letter, *and elver*since my leg'has been so painful that I could not straighten it. About 21 months ago I became very lame and experienced great pain. Several doctors said I Avould have to be operated on, and at last, in desperation, I decided to have it cut off as I could not stand the pain of it. A month's electrical treatment cost £l5O. Hickson, the faith healer, came here and I was persuaded to go to him.
"You might remember that when I first came here in 1902 I had an awful smash up with a young horse. Both wrists and elbows nearly broken, ear kicked, back badly damaged, concussion of the brain, and carted oft to hospital with a rib sticking out: dead to the world for two days. Ever since then, 20 years ago, I could not possibly turn my head to the left. My right arm has also been bent at the elbow and nothing could straighten it. Hickson was announced, and I; was given a card-to fill in, stating what I suffered from. I, wrote down 'lame . leg, bent arm, and stiff neck.' result is too for words. I came away from the church on Saturday morning and absolutely did not give my troubles a thought. I really thought it was too hopeless for Hickson, or any one else, to cure me. I was up early the, following Sunday andj I found my left knee perfectly straight, right arm completely, cured, apd my head twisting round, any side I liked, and absolutely no pain in any part of my body. I then went to thank Hickson, but. he replied 'I did hotcure you.' I said, 'I A knpw that perfectly well, only God could do such a thing, and I can only thank the Lord for -bringing .you to me,' ; Honestly it is a perfect miracle. Later I was asked to, state my cure in the church. And, only think of it, I preached a sermonto a big congregation, and many people said I did a wonderful amount of good, &.;>d my .address had a remarkable effect upon them..;'" \; '.-";-.. "For about six days after Hicksox. placed his hands upon my head I had most extraordinary sensations or. my knee; a, kind of tapping, like an electric battery working inside. In some marvollous way this was. the curing process going on, and pain, was being driven out of my knee. During the. last 40 years when getting up from a chair I have had to lift myself with both hands to ease the pain m my knee. Now I can get up on my left leg alone, far easier than I could, on my sound right leg. Riding, which I used to dread through the agony I suffered, is now a pleasure to me, and I jump off my horse like a youngster.*' "Mr"Rutherfurd went on to quote several instances of Avonderful permanent cures., '
