HARBOUR BOARD CHAIRMAN DEFIED.

POLICE CALLED IN. The meeting of the Opunake Harbour Board on Friday ended in rather a dramatic end abrupt manner (says the local Times). .- Usually the meetings are prosaic affairs, but when the "motions pursuant; to notice" stage wa s reached on ".Friday a lively scene ensued, ending in the chairmen asking Mr A. M. Moore to withdraw, certain remarks or leave the, meetings Mr Moore, in bringing •forward a motion, made some scathing personal remarks regarding the chairman and members, the burden of his complaint being that members wei-e neglecting . their duties and leaving too much to -the engineer. At the end of the altercation, Mr Moore refused to leav e the room, and the meeting was adjourned until Saturday afternoon. When the members took their seats on Saturday afternoon, the chairman asked Mr Moore to withdraw the words "damned crawlers," but this Mr Moore refused to do. The chairman then called on Constable Clouston to remove him from tfhe meeting. This closed the incident, and the meeting proceeded.

j The Times understands that Mr jMoore will not be allowed to speak or vote at meetings during the present board's term of .office until ho apologises. " .
