WAIKATO MARKET REPORT.
The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., Hamilton, report under date October 9 : —•
Beef.—Competition for beef still remains keen in all centres with values steady at last quotations. Mutton.—There has not been any improvement in mutton, the tendency is in fact in the opposite direction.
Store cattle—Continue to- sell well everywhere, all classes participating in the advance. Forward steers and cows are in strong demand. Young steers are steady, but no doubt when the fern begins to adorn the slopes of the back country, improvement will be observed. The advance in the value’ of Dairy Cattle has turned attention once more to empty heifers and business in this class has been quite brisk. Stove sheep— The enquiry is fair, indeed the present value of "fat sheep does not justify the values demanded for stores. Hoggets in particular seeny unreasonably high. Quotations to hand, l'o-r station lines'of ewes are to say the least, of an optimistic nature and provide a lively overture for the coming season’s operations. Contrary to the previous year purchases for forward delivery are not likely to be extensive. At the same time there is every indication of high values ruling. Dairy cattle.—Business in all centres is good and competition keen. Pig;s.—Sell freely everywhere. The high Values obtained at the yards seem To have restricted operations over the scales. We quote as follows:
