SHARP RISE IN BEEF,
There was on average yarding of all sorts of stock' at the Levin weekly sale Tuesday, prices being in vendors’ favour in most, instances. Beef particularly was sharply in advance of late rates, fat cows fetching up to £9. Pigs, showed a slight advance on last week’s rates, particularly for baconers which were keenly competed for. Fat sheep were again m short, supply and sold well .at late rates. Prices were as follow: — Pigs: Weaners 17s to 20s 6d, stores 265, light porkers 36s to 38s, heavier £2 13s to £2 19s, light baconers. £3.175. Sheep: Shorn fat wethers 365, : lightfat ditto 365, light fat ewes 32sy .aged ewes and lambs 31s. Cattle: Fat cows £7 11s to £9, 3-year-old Hereford steers £4 17s 6d, others £4, dairy cows to £8 10s.
