SACRED CONCERT.

PEARSON MEMORIAL FUND. At the .sacred concert in aid of the Pearson Memorial Blind Fund given in the Presbyterian Church on Thursday evening there .was a very good attendance in spite of the bad night. The (choir, which was a combined one, came from Le.vin and numbered about 25 members, under the baton of Mr J. Howard Andrew, with Mrs T. F. Gibson as organist. The concert was. good from beginning to end as was shown by the very appreciative audience ahd- the numerous encores. The choir , was fairly well balanced, but .could have done with a few more sopranos, whilst the bass was a trifle too heavy; nevertheless the. singers acquitted themselves very well, and, as was afterwards expressed, it was hoped it) would not be the last time they would be heard in- Shannon. The choir rendered five anthems in all, the best being “The Radiant Morn’’ and “Hallelujah, Christ is Risen.” The soloists were in good form and all received encores, Mr Mo-ttershead being in exceptionally good voice, and receiving a double encore, whilst the local talent, Mrs Freeman and Miss Aim, very ably assisted. The elocutionary items were rendered by Nancy Andrew and Mr Andrew, the latter’s piece, “His First Long Trousers,” bringing forth an encore. Mesdames Andrew and ..Bovis acted as accompanists. Mr Clayton made a l , good chairman and in his introductory remarks spoke of the purpose for which the concert was held. At the conclusion the Mayor (Mr Murdoch) thanked the performers for the high class concert and; said he hoped: they would again visit Shannon. He also moved a vote of thanks to the trustees for the use of the church, which was carried by acclamation. Mr H.Andrew replied on behalf of the choir and said it was a; pleasure for them to visit Shannon* and sing to such an appreciative audience. The visitors before returning home were entertained at supper by the ladies of Shannon.
