Shannon was eu fete on Saturday the main street presenting quite a busy appearance when the committees ol the various queens, together with their helpers, missed no opportunities tio lighten the pockets of the public in their endeavour to secure votes for their queen. The means for extorting money were many and varied and ranged from guessing the name of the “gintiemin that pays the rint” down to purchasing a buttonhole, there also being a shooting gallery, Aunt Sally, and stalls with a wonderful assortment of everything to suit old and young, besides numerous competitions. As a result, of the day’s work all the secretaries report a big increase in their bank accounts.

On Sunday the Maori String Band visited Airapeti where jgavle a musical entertainment.

” The Sports Queen Committee are at present busq organising a concert It is their intention to put on a concert that will be second to none yet given in Shannon, Dancing enthusiasts are reminded of the Sports dance to be held in the Druids Hall on Friday evening. Fibre stall: Guessing name of pig (“Arthur”);, Mr R. Tippler. TO-NIGHT’S CONCERT.

At the Maoriland Theatre to-night Mr Hinton’s concert party from Arapeti will give a concert, which should not -be missed. The Arapeti party will' be well remembered by the excellent show they ga.Ve in Shannon some months ago—those who attend can be assured of an. enjoyable, evening.
