That Dunedin is not far behind other cities in so far as progressiveness is concerned lhas often been demonstrated in “a quiet way” (says the Otago Daily Times). There was on .view: in the tearoom 1 at Wingatui. on thie occasion of the Hunt Club’s meeting, a combined' two-loaf butterspreading; and bread-slicing machine, which, it is claimed, will practically eliminate the handling of every slice j of bread used for sandwiches, and j will assuredly result in a great saving of labour. The machine was designed by Mr W. Alloo, an employee of the Otago Daily Times. Its capao- j ity operated by hand power i s 3000 j buttered slices, but driven by electric 1 power the machine would probably cut up to 10,000 slices per hour. 1
