WAUGANUI SPRING MEETING

GUINEAS TO RAZZLE DAZZLE. • COLD STEEL WINS SPRING HANDICAP. RATIONAL —THE .FLYING. The first day of the Wanganui Jockey Clubs’ Spring Meeting opened yesterday fn fine weather with a good attendance of the sport-loving public. Light showers fell earlier in the morning, but fortunately, the clouds were dispersed before the racing commenced. The track, however, was heavy. The management of the irieeting, under the direction of Mr W. Hall, the secretary, left nothing to be desired, and the. racing was of a most interesting description, some very close finishes being witnessed. The Wanganui Garrison Band dispensed an excellent programme of music during the day.

An, inquiry was held into the running in the Maiden event, and D. R. Gunn, who had the mount on Hall Mark, was stood down for one month for careless riding. An interesting interlude was provided by a parade and trial ■ gallop along the straight of youngsters with the colours up, in two divisions. The first heat was won by Siaosi, with Gaillard second. The second heat was most interesting, Motley, Dangle and Peutetre finishing together. Most of these will be seen in the Debutante two-year-old Stakes to-morrow. It is noteworthy that only seven acceptors were scratched for the eight events carded.

The totalisator handled £27,503 10/ as against £25;894 for the corresponding day last year, an increase of £I6OB 10/. Results:—
