QUEEN CARNIVAL.
TO START IMMEDIATELY,
A meeting of the executive of the proposed Queen Carnival was held on Wednesday evening, when owing to some of the delegates from .the various queen committees tailing to attend, it .was resolved that a s there was an apparent lack of public support, to postpone ' the Carnival indefinitely.
On the position becoming known on Thursday morning some of the representatives considered it would be regrettable to allow the carnival to lapse and at onpe set to work to get the Carnival going. A meeting was held Last evening which was largely attended and after thoroughly (discussing the matter it was decided to make an immediate start and to that, end a new executive was set* up a s follows Chairman, tire Mayor (Mr Murdoch); secretary, Mr J. T. Bovis; committee, Messrs G. Mitchell and S. Henry (Farmers’ Queen), J. v. Bums and H. Hook (Fibre Queen), W. Murdoch and J- Turoa (Maori Quepn), J. Crowther and W.' Quarrie (Sports Queen). The following were the queens and their colours decided upon by the different committees:— Fibre.—Miss M. Greedy, green and cream. * Sports.—Miss E. King, yellow and black. Maori.—L. Kohika red and white.
Farmers.—Miss E. Easton, colours left to Ladies’ committee to decide. It was decided that, the Carnival terminate during the last week in ' November. Resolved that the Executive meet every Tuesday.
