As they were aware there was a Manawatu Jersey Breeders’ Club which took in the whole W,est Coast, but it was found to be too large to be workable, and the formation of a more compact district was desirable. He called upon Mr Lancaster to give the meeting any information possible regarding the formation of a club.
Mr Lancaster, who was greeted with applause, said it gave him. great pleasure to meet those present, and any information and advice which he could give, they were at all times welcome to. As the chairman had said, there was a Manawatu Jersey Breeders’ Club, but. it was too large, taking in aisl it did/ the whole of the West- Coast, from! Wanganui to Wellington. There was no cohesion in such an extensive, area, and the club lacked that enthusiasm, which made ■or success. The majority of.its members were in the, Horowhenua. district, and the present movement showed that they had the necessary keenness. A successful club could do a <Trea.t deal to help the breed, and also the breeder. Men got together and discussed noints of common interest regarding breeding; remits could he r ’'amed and forwarded to the New Zealand Jersev Breeders’ Association, and they had; where necessary, the weight of that body behind therm He considered they were very wise to take the present step, and felt sure that the Club would he. a very, successful one.
Mr Lancaster then read the rules of the Manawatu Club; which were submitted as a, guide in the framing of rules. These, he said, were about, all that was necessary, and he suggested that the secretary of the club to lie formed should go into them with the committee with a view to their adoption, or modification. In answer to Mr M. J. Lenihan. the chairman explained, that the suggested boundaries were from Parapa■nausmu in the south to Tokomaru, and including Foxton in the north. Mr J. H. Taylor then moved, and Mjr J. Nicholson seconded, Thait a branch of the Jersey Breeders’ Association, to be called the-“Horowhenua Jersey Breeders’ Club,” be formed. This was carried unanimously, and Hie whole of those present were elected members. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Officers were elected as follows: — President.—'Mr R. L. Horn. Vice-president.—Mr .T. Nicholson. Secretary.—Mr T. G. Vincent. Treasurer.—Mr- H. J. Lancaster. On tire motion of Mr Nicholson, seconded by Mr Lancaster, it was agreed that the Committee should consist of the president, vice-president arid three members, the following be-ino-.elected to the position: Messrs S. Bowker, T. G. Vincent and H. J. Lancaster. . In accepting the position of president Mr Horn expressed the opinion that the Club would bfe good for the breed and good for the district. There were a large number of young breeders in the district and these-weire the right men to get under and push the club along; On the proposal oi Mr Lenihan, seconded by Mr J. Horn, it was decided'that tire rules of the Mannwatu Club should be' adopted in full. Tire question of holding a pedigree jersev sale in October of this year, where breeders would offer their surplus stock, caime up for discussion, a canvass ; of the room resulting in a very satisfactory offering being received. It was suggested that vendors should offer their stock through whichever firm they preferred, a charge Of 2/6 for calves, and 5s for older caltle being made by the club towards the cost of organisation. The matter was finally left in. the lianas of the committee for further investigation and decision. Subscriptions were fixed at tOs per year. . ■ , , Heart’.' votes of thanks, carried b\ acclamation, to the chair, and to Mr l-i. J. ! jam caster for his assistance; concluded the meeting.
