HOROWHENUA IN TRAINING.
MR W- WALLACE AS COACH
On Wednesday seventeen out of the twenty men picked to go into training at the Central Development Farm, for the Raniurly Shield match in. Napier on Saturday week, assembled at the Farm-.
Collier and Kelly, both of whom are engaged on the Mangahao construction works, are unable to attend regularly but. will put, in Saturday afternoon and Sunday at the training quarters. Rewi Moynihan, the other man unable xq go into/ full training, will also attend when possible. In connection with the training, Mr W. Bevan has had, the fortune to secure the services of Mr W.. Wallace as coach. Mr Wallace was the star centre three-quarter of the famous 1905 All Black touring team, 'and one of the .most brilliant footballers New Zealand has produced.'* His ability asa. coach may be gauged from the fact that he was chosen to act in that capacity to the present New Zealand representative team, 1 , and also coaches four of Wellington’s leading clubs, whilst his sportsmanship and love of the game is demonstrated by the fact that he has offered to coach the Horowhenua team, free of charge of any sort. Mr Wilson, who is considered to be one of Wellington’s best men in that capacity, has he.en engaged as trainer.
The Management Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, is to be congratulated on tbeir initiative, and the thoroughness with which the many difficulties of collecting the team ait such short notice, ; .ha,s been 1 overcome >and on the enthusiasm which has surmounted all obstacles. No stone is being left unturned to insure that thie teams sent to Napier on September Bth,. will worthily represent the Union, and the progress of the training will be. watched with the greatest "interest by all lovers of the national game. The team will be picked from the following twenty players .—Backs : Udy (Otaki), Johnson, (Hud Mai), Moses, Reid, Baker (Foxton), Lenihan, Kelly (Shannon), McDonald, Jacob, Winiata (Wanderers), Broughton, Collier (Weraroa), Tana, Gardner, George (Hui Mai), Marsh, Robinson (Foxton-, Bevan (Otaki), Moynihan (Shannon). ALL BLACK TEAM. TIMARU, Last Night. The All Black team for the second Test is announced to be as follows; — Full-back, Sinclair; three-quarters, Peina, Lucas, Ford; five-eighths, Perry, Bell; half, McCarthy; wing forward, Beilis; forwards: back row, Pringle, Richardson; sides, Peterson, West; lock, Williams; hookers, Donald, McMeeking. Emergencies: backs, H. E. Nicholls, McLean and Potalca; forwards Brownlie and Irvine. The players are all reported to be fit and available, and will leave for Christchurch with the express tomorrow. NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The New South Wales team is as follows: —Full-back, Nothling; threequarters: Erasmus, Stanley and Sheehan; five-eighths: Loudon, George; half: Mingay. The forwards will be picked from Elliott, Armstrong, Thorn, Marriott, Taylor, Davis, Blackwood, Thompson, Erby and Fowlds. The team arrived from the South to-night. Mr Bosward declares that Southland is the best team they have so far met in New Zealand.
