SCHOOL BOOKS.
According to a statement made in the House, of Representatives by the Minister for Education, there is to .b® more chopping and changing in connection with the books in use at our public schools. Mr. )?arr says that the books at present in use would be replaced next by books selected from a new authorised list. He maintains that the change will not mean additional expense to parents. Mr. Parr must be out of touch with school matters if ho seriously thinks ;that such will be the case. In many families where there are several children, books are handed down from one child to another. If there is to be a new set then there must be additional cost to parents. Mr. Parr asks us to believe that it is not correct to say that the new list proposed is a list-of new books hot in use, but he admits that the history and. copy books suggested are only “very generally” in use. When the Minister for Education has properly launched hia wonderful book scheme, parents who are now asked to believe that little or no extra expense is involved, will, wo predict, receive- a rude awakening.
