PARTIAL ECLIPSE OF MOON.

On August 26th a partial eclipse of tbe moon will be visible throughout New Zealand. The following are the circumstances of the eclipse:— Moon enters penumbra—August 26th 7.42 p.m. Moon -enters shadow—August 26th 9.22. Middle of eclipse—August 26, 10.10 p.m. Moon leaves shadow—August 26th, 10.57 p.m. Moon leaves penumbra—August 27th 00.36. Magnitude of the eclipse—o.l6B (moon’s diameter, 1,000). The position angle of first contact measured from the. moon’s north point is 145 degrees to. east, and of last contact 171 degrees to west. A rough idea of these points on the limb -may be got by imagining, the moon’s disc as ta clock face; then, looking at the moon, the point of firstcontact will be at about half-past, two, and the last contact at about- twelve o’clock.
