MIRANUI BALL.

A BRILLIANT FUNCTION

The annual Miranui Flaxmill Ball held in the Druids’ Hail last evening was. a pronounced success, therei being oyer 450 persons present, visitors coming from Wellington, Napier, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Levin, while all the surrounding townships were well represented. The hall had been prettily decorated with dressed flax and green flax leaf with green and yellow streamers stretching across Iroin a huge, red paper bell in the centre, while the supper room was also decorated with flax and streamers -and the whole combined with the various coloured lrocks ol the ladies presented a very animated scene. The stage, which was also tastefully decorated, was occupied on one side by the orchestra, while on the other a stall had been erected where “Claret, Cup” was. dispensed and which was well patronised. The floor was in excellent condition for dancing\ and the music, which was supplied by Larkin’s “Elite Six,” left nothing wanting from the dancers’ point of view. Messrs. M. Christiansen, F. Ea'gle and L. Richardson carried out the duties of M.’sC. in a most capable manner. /A sit-down supper which bad been prepared by the ladies’ committee wag done full justice to and was very much appreciated. The committees who had put in a lot of work are to be complimented on the arrangements they had made to make the gathering such a pronounced success, which must be very gratifying to all concerned. The secretarial duties and a good deal of the organisation were carried out very capably by Mr H. T. Greedy. During the evening, Mr A. Seifert, in, the course of a neat speech, said he was glad to see so many present and said he ; hoped the committee would not stop only with a ball but he would like to see, a picnic held during the summer months in which the children could participate. At an interval in the proceedings a flash light photograph was taken of the large gathering. Dancing was kept up until the early horn’s of .the morning; and although the committee had been, handicapped by having to postpone the dance from. August 10th, owing to the “flu” it was one of the most enjoyable Gatherings yet held in’ Shannon. Following are a Hew of the frocks worn, it being quite impossible to get, particulars of all: ...
