COVERING THE FLOOR
LAYING AND CARE OF LINOLEUM. If new linoleum is laid when it is cold there is - a danger of its cracking. The best plan is to keep the roll .for a day or so in a warm room so that it is gently heated right through, Let the floor on which the linoleum is to be laid be well scrubbed and spread, the material before the wood is quite dry . The slight dampness will make the linoleum stretch a little and lie flat. A very good plan when laying linoleum is to sprinkle sawdust on the floor. This should be', well silted before use so as to remove any. splinters. Spread the sawdust evenly under the linoleum. The linoleum will then be noiseless to the tread and will wear for a very long while. A CLEANING MIXTURE, One of the best things for cleaning linoleum is a mixture of milk and water. To a, cupful of water add about half the quantity of milk. Rub the mixture well in, and it will bo found to preserve the gloss and colour of the linoleum to a remarkable, extent. A coating of varnish will improve the appearance of linoleum. Clean the room well in the first instance so that there is no dust about, and then apply the varnish on a mild day. The varnish will make! the linoleum last longer. On no account should the room be used until the varnish is perfectly dry.
