CARNIVAL.
On Thursday night a .meeting was held of representatives oi sports bodies, ratipayers’ association, general public and Borough Council to oigauise a scheme) for bolding a uonsoer Queen Carnival for the purpose of raising funds for improvements at the Recreation Groumxis, widen wm mcluide tire erection of swings, schutes, see-saws, etc., for cinkirqi and generally making the grounds a pleasure place for women and : .m----reh. Mr J. Beard presided. Mr C. Day, who organised lie Levin and Ot-aki carnivals, attend*:) 1 and gave the Committee much valuable advice as to the manner in which the carnival should be conducted. After the whole matter bad been thoroughly gone into, it was decided to invite the -men at. Mangahao, the flaxmillers and sports to nominate a respective queen. it was decided to run thq camval for one month and to begin about the end ol August. The campaign will probably commence with a concert at which each of the various queen candidates will be presented. Thq campaign is to end with a coronation, crowning oi the Queen and raising to* 'tie ragei of high officials, etc. Each queen’s committee is to cu amis© its. own affairs, paying < • m expanses out oi money raised. It was agreed that the committees from the various queen organisations meet next Thursday, when the warn a campaign will be put on a sound footing ready for the start.
