CANTERBURY DEFEATS WELLINGTON. BY 8 POINTS TO 6. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The representative match, Canterbury v. Wellington, was played before 6000 spectators, the weather was showery and the ground sodden. Early in the game Brown (Canterbury) intercepted and cleverly ran to the full-back, passed to Ford, and the latter scored under the posts. Brown converted. The visiting pack appeared slightly superior in loose and tight play, but the wind was against them. Wellington became agressive and from a penalty for an illegal tackle, Mark Nicholls (Wellington.) lucked a good goal. Ford again became prominent, and his heady play elicted great applause. St. George and Ford staved oil a strong Wellington attack, 'and a short punt by Roberts gained ground. Porter (Wellington) scored, but Malcolm failed with the kick.
The second spell was well contested. Ford secured, cleverly beating "two men, but no goal resulted. Canterbury were attacking during most of the spell. WANGANUI WINS. BAY OF PLENTY DEFEATED, 13 — 8. ROTORUA, Last Night. Wanganui defeated Bay of Plenty by 13 points to S. For the winners, tries were scored by Grogan, Baddeley and Sinclair, two being converteu by A. Delves. For the Bay, tries were scored by Pini and Cupples, one being converted by McLean. The forwards were evenly match, but the visiting backs were superior. Beilis, Baddeley, Delves and Ross played best for Wanganui, and Cupples, McLean, Jones and Pini Herewini for the losers. The game was won on the call of time, Baddeley scoring.
