RUGBY UNION AFFAIRS.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS

The weekly meeting of the Horowhenut . Rugby Union Management Committee was held last Tuesday evening. Mr Honi McMillan, in the temporary absence of Mr J. Procter, occupied tlijei chair. Also present Messrs iProcter, Be van, Casey, Hutchings, Austin, Brimstone, and tiie secretary (Mr L. Carmichael). Proposed, by Mr Austin, seconded by Mr Hutchings, that Mr Grimstone be manager of the Junior Reps, team in /the match against Maiiawatu.— Carried.

Proposed by Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Hutchings, that Mr J. 'Procter bid manager of the Senior Rep. team to play Manawatu in Palmerston North on Saturday.—Carried. In the case of Bryant, a Foxton player, who was ordered off the field in the Shannon-Foxton game last Saturday, and who waited on the Union in consequence, but of whose case no intimation had been received by the Committee, it was moved by Mr Hutchings and seconded by Mr Sciascia, “That .the Referees’ Association be asked to explain why the referee, Sr Burrows, had omitted to report e case to thte meeting.”

Members expressed regret that such a thing should have occurred, and that under the ' circumstances this player should have been put to the expense of attending the meeting. On the motion of Mr Austin, seconded by Mr Hutchings, it was further resolved, “That as thiefe is no referee’s report concerning Bryant’s being ordered off, his case be dismissed.”

H. Jacob waited on the Union to- explain why, being picked for combined Manawatu-Horowhenua. game- against Wellington., he failed to play, and further failed to notify the Union of his intention to absent himself. . Jacob explained that he had fully intended to play, but on Friday was taken ill, and 1 as he had had to go to bed, was unable to report. He intended to send a notification to the Union on Saturday morning, but had not had time to do so- when the Union's (representative 'called for him at 6 a.m). ~ It was decided to accept the explanation, the chairman giving a warning that any player selected and unable to play must take adequate steps to notify ho Union in sufficient time to allow of a substitute being obtained. Resolved that insurance amounting to £6 be paid to W. C. Hunt, of the Tokomam Club. .. Accounts amounting to Os m were passed for payment. Weraroa was drawn to play hui Mai.at Levin for the Nash Gup. A hearty vote 1 ' of thanks to trie chair teiminated the meeting.
