SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Gouncil . . Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch), and Qrs. Buttt, Gunning, Carter and Beard. CORRESPONDENCE. An application from E. A. W. Osborne for a second-hand dealers’ license .was granted. The secretary of the Koputaroa Ratepayers Committee wrote .ashing the Council to appoint two members to work with representatives from other interested bodies, in keeping the . question of - completing the Koputa-roa-Buckley road before the Horowhe'nua County Council.—Crs. Butt and Hyde were appointed to represent the Council on the Committee. From the Department of Health forwarding a copy of regulations for picture theatres, halls, etc.—The Mayor to interview the picture proprietors re further access from their building in caise of Are. The Sanitary Contractor wrote that owing tp ill health he was unable! to carry out his duties.—The Town Clerk was instructed to make temporary arrangements. From the Engineer, Mr Edwards) re <May in passing the Vahce street contract, stating he had been laid up, but expected to 'be able to attend to ! the work in the course of a day or tWO. A letter was also received from the Engineer in reply to a letter from the Council, as to What he was doing in respect to the waterworks, and stating he would report at the earliest ■ possible moment.—Cr. Carter said he was not satisfied with the progress being made with the water supply 'and hel moved that the Engineer be written to and informed that the Council is not satisfied with thie progress he is making with the water supply and the Council insist that he should go earnestly to work and make somei definite movie.—The motion Was carried unanimously. The Mayor said there must be no further delay and no further excuses will be taken. A letter was received from the Lands Department advising that sections 202, 289, 340 and 322 would be vested in the Borough,.—lt was decided that the Department be written to and notified that section 322 be altered from pound reserve to employees’ residence. . , . GENERAL. ‘ Cr. Carter, chairman of the Lighting Committee said) he had been, waiting for an estimate of cost of globes for the balance of lamps on hand, but up. to the present he.had not received the estimate.—lt was resolved to sell some of the lamps at cost price. ■lt was resolved that .Cr. Gunnings notice of motion re rescinding a. resolution toi purchase, moulds for making cement slabs, be held over until the next .meeting of the council. Cr. Carter gavjei notice of motion to move thajt' the tninute of the 25th July, 1923, ‘'That the Couhcil takes no> objection lb a hedge being planted seven / Uetet from the present hedge on the Recreation Ground, all the way round,” be rescinded.—Carried. Accounts were passed for payment.
