FIVE HORSES BOLT.
ONE DRAGGED HUNDRED YARDS. A man 'and a horse were injured, four trees were uprooted, and a speed disc was pulledi down in Hoidenstreet, Ashfleld, Sydney, the other (Jay, when five horses attached to a furniture waggon bolted. The horse's were being driven along Liverpool road, and were turned into Holden street, when they took fright. The driver tried to stop them, but lie was thrown to the roadway, where he lay until he was picked up and attended to by some men. The horses continued on down Holden street, dashing from one side oi thej road toi the other. At the corner of Norton street the heavy vehicle was hurled against the four-miles-an-hour disc, tearing it down.
This fllid not stop the maddened horses—in fact, it made 1 them gallop even faster.
Suddenly one of the animals stumbled, and fell with great force to the roadway. It was drawn underneath the waggdn and was dragged fully 100 yards down the road. Rocking dangerously, the lorry crashed into two trees—each about 10 yards apart—in front of a doctor’s surgery. The trees, were torn out of the ground, roots and all. Then the waggon; crashed into two moire trees near Rose street, and they, also, were pulled out of the ground. All this, time the horse tha.t had fal-
len was being dragged along. It was screaming and struggling madly. Finally, thoroughly exhausted, the .animals stopped near Arthur street. The horse that fell was badly cut about the legs and mouth. It was found upon examination that the driver of the horses had not been badly hurt.
