The important position Argentine is gaining as a dairy producer is emphasised by the latest statistics from that great South American Republic. These show that Argentine butter has found a ready outlet this year, 312,725 cases having been shipped up to 31st March as against 283,374 at the same time last year. Great Britain was the destination this year of 271,832 cases, and Prance of 29,151 cases, followed by the United .States with 9,550 cases. Prices have been satisfactory at between 175 and 200 shillings per hundredweight. Although we have no precise records of cheese and casein shipments, these are known to have been exceptionally important in recent months. There is, says the ‘ ‘ River Plate Review, ’ ’ every prospect of a continuance of this satisfactory foreign demand for Argentine dairy produce,
so that the industry appears to be assured of a prosperous year.
