RUGBY UNION MATTERS.
MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Horowhenua jrtughy Union was held on Tuesday, Mr J. Procter Being in the chair. 'j.uere were also present Messrs SCiascia, Casey, Austin, Hutchings, Grimstone, McMillan, and the secretary, Mr jc... Carmichael. ROUGH PLAY PENALISED.
A. Cook, Hui Mai, who was ordered to the line 10, r rough'play and threatening language to the referee, appeared hefore. the. committee to answar to me charges. Mr H. Burrows, who refereed the game, stated that when cook was ordered off the field, he, had in' going, threatened to see ihim after the game. Cook, however, had come to hint after, wards/ and shaken hands, explaining that his remark merely referred to an explanation which he wished to make re the play complained of, and (he was prepared .to accept this explanation. It .was moved hy Mr Grimstone ana seconded hy Mr Hutchings that as Cook had already been, suspended for one playing Saturday, a severe caution he given, such caution to stand against hiim should he again, come Before the Union. J. Aroua, for rough play, was alsO' severely cautioned. F. Wilson, of the Shannon Juniors, appeared to answer charges of fighting on the field, refusing to> leave when ordered off By the. referee, and' ■giving trouble on the line when he eventually went off. Wilson claimed that the other man was the aggressor. He admitted giving the referee trouble. The referee, Mr W. Neville, explained that tie had had trouble with this player on a former occsion and . that he. was a thoroughly unsatisfactory man on a football field. On this occasion the man whom Wilson claimeu to be the. aggressor had left the field as. soon as spoken to, but Wilson had to be ordered off three, times and had then made a general nuisance of himself from the line. ' After some discussion it was moved j by Mr Caseyseconded by Mr Austin, that Wilson be„ suspended for the remainder of the season. An amendment that he be suspended for four playing Saturdays only, was lost, and the original motion carried. GENERAL. Moved by Mr Sciascia seconded by Mr Procter that the appointment of Horowhenua selectors for the comibined Horowhenua-Manawatu match against Wellington, be left in the hands of the, secretary. The secretary was instructed tb confer with the selector for the rep. team, Mr J. J? O’Connor, re the team to play the Bush Union, and to make enquiries re train schedule, hotel accommodation., etc. Proposed by Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Austin, that' Mr J. Procter be manager for the rep. team, to play the Bush Union. —Carried. r Proposed by Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Austin that the secretary's acttion re arrangements for selectors for the combined Wellington-Mana.wa’tu-Horowhenua team, to play New South Wales, viz., two from Wellington and one ’from each of the other two unions, be confirmed.—Carried. Proposed by Mr Sciascia, seconded by Mr Hutchings that no transfers from one club to another ibe allowed, —Carried.
On the. motion of the chairman, the secretary was instructed to write to the Tokomaru Club for further particulars of Fry’s incapacitation, for the_purpose of insurance. Proposed by Mr Procter, seconded by Mr, Austin,,' that the- New Zealand Rugby Union be written, to objecting against any alteration to the Horowhenua boundaries in view of the report of the Manawatiui R.U.—Carried. Accounts totalling £lO 6s '6d were passed for payment.
BANNER FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS. In connection with thle banner presented by Mrs B, E. Austin, of Foxton, for competition among primary schools, the following rules; were adopted (1) The banner to be known as the Austin Challenge Banner. . (2) The competition to be Open to teams from, primary schools within the Horowhenua Rugby Union. (3) If competition should lapse the banner to go back to the donor.
(4) The . Foxton school to. be the present holders. (5) AH challenges to be forwarded through the Union. (6) The winners to hold the banner.
(7) All challenges to be taken in rotation.
(8) All games to be played on the home ground of the holders. (9) The competition to be held under the rules of the Horowhenua RlUigby Union, any disputes arising to ■he settled by the management committee of the Union.
A (hearty vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr Nash for the use of his room concluded the, meeting.
