“SCANDAL.”
COSMO HAMILTON’S. DELIGHTFUL 1 COMEDY.
| The Sydney Sun said of Cosmo I Hairnilton’s play, “Scandal,” which ! opens a one night’s season at the Maoriland Theatre on Tuesday next under the. banner of Harry I. Cohen by arrangement with J. C.'Williamson, Lid., “An enoimously interesting conir ' edy.” Cosnio Hamilton has written with a sense of style and verity, it is easily the. most workmanlike ol ali the oedfoom comedies of 1 the last ten years, and always produces a genuine, dramatic thrill. You. rarely feel the piercing of situations. It is'beautifully and audaciously Wrought. Virtually the whole third act is made with wit, sense and skill. There is more than a scare in .“Scandal.” They are human characters brilliantly composed of nerves, brains, ,and humour. “Scandal” aroused mucli controversy in, Sydney and the four New Zealand centres owing to the nature of the play. This did n,ot., hojvever, mitigate against the. success, but -rather tended to increase the interest on the part of the public to see it. The opinion was that' in staging “Scandal” popular taste had. been evidently a,c'cuirately judged. The piece is wonderfully acted, and' has an exceptionally strong cast. Besides Doris Duane, the leading lady, an actress .specially imported for the production, and the wellknown English actor. Eric Harrison, whose work is always of the highest order, there are in the cast the following: George Broad, Harold’Moran, Graham Newton, Arthur Ellis, Lucy • Carter, Mary MacGregor, and Arthur Adams. The box plan is'at Mrs Ah: ersey’s. , . .
