INTERNATIONAL "CO-OP.” DAY.

On Saturday last, 7th July, co-oper-ators in all parts, of the world, at the instance of the. International Co-oper-ative Alliance, inaugurated a special day of their own. As. this fell on a busy shopping day, Shannon Co-oper-ators observed the day on Wednesday. “Uncle Podger,” who has organised the Young .Go-operators’ League ~in New Zealand, made a good start towards forming a branch in Shannon. The children spent a jolly hour with him, his “regalia’ 5 being much admired. In .the evening members, and their friends spent a happy time and entertained one another right merrily. Very acceptable vocal items were rendered by Mrs Bovis, Mrs Riches, Mr HookV the Misses Thompson, and Miss Merwood. Miss Minnis Christopherson played a pianoforte solo. Miss Winnie Pickles played two delightful violin solos; and Miss Rita jTe.rry introduced vairiety with a* novel Dutch dance. Master Merwood sang and Mr Lankshear (president of the society). amused 1 his fellow, cooperators with a humorous recitation. V

Mr H. W. Tidman read a special message. from the International. cooperative Alliance and. reminded his hearers that although Shannon was small, the world was wide and the Co-opera-tive movement was as wide as the world. Every man and woman who became a member of the new co-oper-ative society became, automatically a partner in the mightiest movement the world had ever seen. He stressed the practical nature, of the movement and pointed) out that it was the Labour objective, the Socialists’ dream and tne Christians’ Golden Rule alt actual work in the daily livds of the people. The •day was coming when the,, common people would be called upon ister their own national affairs and he appealed to co-operators to equip themselves for the tasks ahead through the medium, of co-operation. Supper was served,, by many willing hands and this was- followed by sev- ■ eral dances, the music for vyhich was supplied by Mrs Bovis, Miss Davis, Miss G. Merwood and Me&srs. Bovis and H. Hook-
